Villa Kismet
Villa Kismet is our home from home – south facing and festooned with bougainvillea, it is a spacious, three bedroomed, air-conditioned villa with stunning views of Kalkan Bay and Sleeping Elephant Rock. It is set in an olive grove, with just a few surrounding villas, ten minutes walk from the village centre.
The Villa. This has been tastefully designed and furnished to give a feeling of space, air and light and to create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The main room covers the entire ground floor. At one end there is a very large cane sofa which can double as an extra bed for two, and a chaise longue the size of a single bed. There is a hi-fi system, flat screen satellite tv, DVD player and connection to hi-fi for MP3/ipod player. We have a land line telephone and router for broadband/wireless laptop connection. There is a permanent collection of books, and a generous quantity of cd’s and dvd’s for all ages. The main room also has a log fire place: great for those autumn and winter days and essential for Christmas and New Year atmosphere!
At the other end of the main room is the kitchen. This is well equipped with an electric cooker and four ring gas hob, toaster, fridge/freezer, dish-washer, water-filter container, juicer, food processor, and a full range of cooking utensils, cutlery and china. There is a large circular marble top dining table with seating for six. There is also a bathroom off this room as well as hidden housing for the washing machine.
All rooms in the villa are fitted with anti-mosquito netting and have air-conditioning.
Small Children: The villa is equipped with a travel cot and a high chair. Young children should be supervised at all times, especially beside the pool.
Outside: There are two sets of french doors which lead out to the south facing terrace, pool and garden, planted with maturing olive, lemon and orange trees, as well as oleander and the glorious bougainvillea, which is such an ever-present part of Kalkan, tumbling from balconies and rooves, filling everywhere with colour.
The pool is the heart of the garden, usually filled with laughter and splashing, or maybe sleepily drifting sunbathers as they cool off from the sun. Let the mood take you! The 5m x 7m pool and is 2 metres deep throughout. There are six sun loungers by the pool, plus three large umbrellas and an Ottoman style cushioned area for shade. Two pretty iron tables and a total of ten chairs are provided for dining al fresco. Both garden and pool areas have lights for the evening or for those memorable midnight dips. There is a barbecue in one corner.
Back inside, the spiral staircase winds up to the first and second floors.
First Floor. Here you will find two bedrooms, identical in size. One acts as the main double bedroom. The second has twin beds and two folding-beds in addition. The villa can therefore comfortably sleep eight. All bedrooms are en suite, have air-conditioning and anti-mosquito plugs.
There is a lovely extensive balcony running between the two bedrooms on the outside. Hung with bougainvillea, this has wonderful views, plus a small table, two chairs, a swing chair and a hammock. It’s a great place for relaxing, taking breakfast or sipping a long, cool drink in the evening and enjoying the view.
Top Floor: The third bedroom has a double bed and is closest to the stars and not just because it’s at the top of the house. Doors on either side of the bedroom lead onto two large roof terraces where guests sometimes sleep beneath the night sky – one of Turkey’s many glories. How many shooting stars can you count? Two collapsible double mosquito tents are provided for this night-time treat. During the day the top terraces give wonderful views over Kalkan Bay, Sleeping Elephant Rock and also inland to the Taurus Mountains.
Whether you choose to spend your time in Villa Kismet during the wonderful summer months, where swimming, reading and relaxing are all you crave, or if you choose to be more adventurous, the position and space it offers and the easy access of Kalkan to places of interest, beaches and larger towns make it a perfect base for your stay. The cooler months offer their own quiet pleasures and, should you need them, the villa has heaters in each room as well as the excellent log fire downstairs.
Finally: We hope you love our villa as much as we do. We have made it our home and like most homes it is in a constant state of evolution. There is a Visitors Guest Book where you can leave comments and we hope you will enjoy reading some of the compliments left by previous occupants. You can find a selection of these on the website.
